How the coach works, what data it uses, and what the free tier includes.

Is Convoy free to use?

Convoy includes a free daily allowance. If you need more, you can connect your own Gemini API key or Anthropic API key and keep using Convoy without paying Convoy for model usage. Paid plans are planned.

Who is Convoy for?

Convoy is for cyclists who want adaptive, data-aware training guidance but cannot justify hiring a human coach, or find other training platforms too expensive. The bring-your-own-key option helps keep costs low.

What coaching approach does Convoy use?

Convoy uses practical, data-grounded coaching. It looks at your recent riding, goals, training availability, FTP and heart-rate profile, then frames advice around familiar training phases like base endurance, build, specific preparation, taper, and event readiness.

How reliable is the advice?

The coach bases answers on your actual ride data and says when information is missing or unclear. It is still AI guidance, so use your own judgment and do not treat it as medical advice or a replacement for a qualified coach when the stakes are high.

What ride information does Convoy use?

Convoy uses your recent Strava activities, including duration, distance, elevation, heart rate, power when available, estimated training load, weekly hours and TSS trends, fitness/fatigue/form indicators, and your latest rides.

Is there a usage limit?

Yes. The current free allowance is 10 requests per day and 20,000 tokens per day, resetting daily. There is also a shared global free-tier cap. A personal Gemini or Anthropic key bypasses Convoy's free-tier counters, but your provider's own limits still apply.

Which model providers are supported?

Convoy's free tier currently runs on Gemini. If you bring your own key, you can use either Gemini or Anthropic. Only one provider can be active at a time.

Convoy reads your actual rides and gives data-grounded answers. Use it alongside your coach, your physio, and your own judgment.

No power meter needed

Heart rate, ride duration, and energy estimates fill in for missing watts, so the coach still tracks load and form.
